A flock of sheep have been gunned down in the countryside by a gang believed to be supplying illicit meat on the black market. The men used .24 calibre hunting rifles to kill the animals on a Northamptonshire farm. The high-powered weapon has a range of three miles and police are concerned that a gang is ready to shoot indiscriminately in open fields. At first, the flock would have huddled together for protection, providing the gunman with an easy target. The gang then bundled 26 carcasses into a van.
